Jirawan Kiatphotha

Jirawan Kietpotha, born in 1986, Ratchaburi, lives and works as a lecturer in the French Department, Faculty of Arts, Silpakorn University. She acquired her Master’s Degree from the University of Grenoble Alpes (France) in 2016, mainly interested in the study of history and Franco-Thai relations during Ayutthaya period, especially Thai society and Siamese studies in which she brought up the archive letter of Chevalier De Forbin, who was the governor of Bangkok, to participate in Bangkok Layers exhibition. Jirawan’s study and investigation reveal layers of sediments stacked and memorized throughout history. She achieved through exploring and in depth analyzing over layers of the document in search for structure of people’s thoughts, place, space and time which has marginalized the studied subject. Nevertheless, considering the limitation of a person who documents something in regard of thinker at a certain time, the context of the person’s thoughts often becomes more significant than the archive itself. Jirawan’s study of context and environment of Forbin’s archive letter, presenting multi-layers of texts, has obstructed decoding process over fundamental thoughts. It has made this archive diverse from other royal chronicles and archive letters, which were diplomatically documented, comparing to the parallel timeline. Due to this document and analysis present divergent viewpoint or perhaps negative aspect of the archive, it is extremely vital as a historical testimony to appear for present days.
